About the Authors


Dr. France Bélanger is University Distinguished Professor, R. B. Pamplin Professor, and Tom and Daisy Byrd Senior Faculty Fellow at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She has been teaching information systems (IS) for more than 30 years in the United States, as well as in Canada, Ethiopia, Portugal, and New Zealand. She has published several books and articles on IS education-related topics, including a highly cited book on distance learning. 

Dr. Bélanger is a proponent of learner-centered approaches to IS education and has developed a number of tools and materials to facilitate such learning. She has led numerous workshops related to education, learner-centered teaching, and mentoring. In 2022, she co-launched an outreach program called “Voices of Privacy” to educate society about information privacy issues and solutions.

She is ranked in several most cited author lists, including among others, the top 1 percent most influential authors across all disciplines and times (Stanford Study) and top 100 most cited IS researchers based on H-index (University of Arizona). She received several international research awards over the years, including the 2020 Lifetime Academic Achievement Award from the International Institute for Applied Knowledge Management. In 2022, Woxsen University (India) honored her academic career by funding the France Bélanger Chair in Information Systems. She is a Fellow of the Association for Information Systems (AIS). She earned her Ph.D. in Economics and Finance at McGill University in 1985.

Craig Van Slyke holds the Mike McCallister Eminent Scholar Chair in Computer Information Systems at Louisiana Tech University. Prior to joining Louisiana Tech, he was Dean and Professor of Computer Information Systems at the W. A. Franke College of Business of Northern Arizona University. Dr. Van Slyke has held leadership positions in the Southern Association for Information Systems (SAIS) and the Association for Information Systems (AIS) Special Interest Group on Education.

Dr. Van Slyke has published extensively on information systems education and has co-authored four IS textbooks. In 2024, he launched a new initiative, “AI Goes to College,” a podcast and newsletter devoted to helping higher education professionals navigate the changes brought on by generative artificial intelligence. He earned his Ph.D. in Information Systems from University of South Florida, Muma College of Business in 1998.

Craig Van Slyke

Robert E. Crossler is the Chair of the Department of Management, Information Systems, and Entrepreneurship as well as the Hubman Distinguished Professor at the Carson College of Business of Washington State University. He has applied the principles of learner-centered education to a variety of courses, including the Computer Concepts course for freshman, the Introduction to IS course for juniors and seniors, the Core IT course for MBA students, database courses at the undergraduate and master’s levels, and information security courses at the undergraduate level.

Dr. Crossler also co-hosts the podcast "AI Goes to College" with Dr. Van Slyke.  The Association of Information Systems (AIS) has recognized him as a Distinguished Member-Cum Laude. He earned his Ph.D. in Accounting and Information Systems from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 2009.
